Enterprise Open at Midland Sailing Club on 28th June 2026.
RESLULTS
This event the third in the 2026 Enterprise Midland area Double Chine series was held at Midland Sailing Club on Sunday 28th June 2026.
The conditions were warm and dry with plenty of cloud , there was a gusty F4 West South westerly wind, giving planning conditions and the odd capsize.
A fleet of eight boats contested the event which was held jointly with the Gp14`s .
Competitors came from as far as Looe, Huddersfield, and Durham.
Race one saw Jonathan Woodward crewed by Jenny Chen Androni (South Staffs/ Midland SC take the lead and round the windward mark first followed by Matt Rawson and daughter Phoebe (Ogston) , third was Oliver Boocock and Luke Hartshorn (Scammonden Water). Whilst positions further back changed often the leaders stayed the same. On the last lap local sailors Paul Young and Khiaan Paul Schild (Midland SC ) closed Ollie and Luke down passing them on the last beat to the finish line.
The second race was held back-to-back on the same course. A pile up at the pin end of the start line saw Ollie and Luke doing 720 turns and several others trying to get away. Jon and Jenny got away well to take the lead again , with our Cornish visitors Sisters Esther and Lauren Bowdler from Looe SC rounding the windward mark in second. Paul and Khiaan were 3rd with Ian Turrell and Sally Ratcliffe (Scammonden Water) in fourth. Ollie and Luke were now in last place.
There were many place changes as the race went on with Matt and Phoebe soon pulling up to second and Paul and Khiaan staying at third , Ollie and Luke caught up fast to challenge Paul and Khiaan on the penultimate lap, overtaking them on the beat, to claim third which they held to the finish. Jon and Jenny won again to secure the trophy , with Matt and young Phoebe sailing brilliantly in the strong conditions to secure another second place.
After an excellent lunch put on by the volunteers in the galley the third and final race started on a new course in the strongest winds of the day which had backed a little and was slightly less gusty.
Once again Jon and Jenny got away first to lead at the windward mark, with Esther and Lauren again second and Paul and Khiaan third. On the following lap, as Jon and Jenny extended their lead , Paul and Khiaan also extended their grip on second place pulling away from the rest of the fleet. Behind places changed regularly in the exciting conditions.
Jon and Jenny won this race also to complete their hat trick, with Paul and Khiaan claiming second and Ollie and Luke third.
Winning helm Jonathan Woodward thanked everyone at Midland SC and the other competitors for making an excellent day’s racing.
The double chine series continues with the final event at Nottingham SC on the river Trent on Sunday 20th September. I look forward to another good event.
